One of the more common hybrid gulls in the Pacific Northwest. This is a Western Gull crossed with a Glaucous-winged Gull.

Bird Feather Detail

One of the great things about digital photography with a modern dSLR is the detail that can be captured. Out in the field, you can see feather detail on birds with a scope or binoculars. I have started a set on Flickr that will show feather detail of birds I photograph. Amazing things, those feathers.

Colliding Worlds

I think there was a Seinfeld episode on this once. We all have our hobbies and vocations and usually the people we rub shoulders with in each of these are separate. Then, every once in awhile, you meet someone from your hobby group at work and it is then that your worlds collide. This once seemed traumatic to me. Do I want my friends to see the "work" me? Do I want my coworkers to see the "athlete" me? At some point I decided I didn't care. I enjoy my life immensely, so I don't mind if my worlds collide a bit. With that in mind, I've updated the links to my other sites. Click at your peril, since you are about to discover that this triathlon coach is a birdwatching scooter riding tree hugger who has his own view of the world (as it should be).

I love nature. Being out on a hike or trail run just makes me feel better. I've been this way for as long as I can remember. At some point many years ago, I started trying to figure out what were the names of all those birds I saw. My dad had a lot to do with that because he had put up a feeder in his yard, which led to his obsession with all things birds. Before his passing, many a family visit revolved around getting outside...and of course, birding.
